Humble Bundle and Safe In Our World partner to provide mental health support to the games industry
Posted: 15 Oct 2024We’re delighted to announce our partnership with Humble Bundle, who are committed to supporting more industry folk with their mental health by supporting our work at Safe In Our World. Humble have also already funded free-to-attend Safe In Our World training aimed at people experiencing uncertainty through things like redundancy, career changes and more.
We chatted to Kamini Tiwari, Vice President of Social Impact at Humble Bundle, about the partnership and their commitment to bettering mental health support in the games industry.
How did Humble Bundle come about, and what made you create the company?
Humble Bundle started back in 2010, thanks to John Graham and Jeff Rosen, who were indie game developers at Wolfire Games. They wanted to create something different—a way for gamers to get awesome indie games while also giving back to charity.
The idea was simple: let people pay what they wanted for game bundles and support causes they cared about at the same time. It really took off! Since then, we’ve raised over $261 million for various charities, proving that gaming can make a real difference in the world.

Can you tell us more about why you chose Safe In Our World to support?
We’re proud to partner with Safe In Our World, especially during these challenging times in the game industry. With studio closures, layoffs, and ongoing uncertainty, many in our community are feeling the strain, and it’s clear that mental health is a critical issue right now.
Safe In Our World is dedicated to raising awareness and providing essential resources for mental health in gaming, which aligns perfectly with our Health & Wellbeing social impact focus. Teaming up is one of the ways for us to do our part to support the game community, encourage open conversations about mental health, and ensure that mental health remains a priority for all.
As part of our partnership, we’re supporting Safe In Our World’s training and coaching programs for industry professionals at no cost, helping them navigate these stressful times. This collaboration aims to empower the gaming community to build resilience and foster a healthier environment where everyone can thrive.

Can you tell us more about Humble’s commitment to mental health and the work you are doing to support charities across the globe?
At Humble, we are deeply committed to supporting mental health initiatives, as we recognize the significant impact that mental health has on individuals and communities. This year, we have focused our efforts to support the gaming industry and youth more generally.
In addition to Safe In Our World, which focuses on promoting positive mental health among gamers, we are proud to support Take This. This pioneering nonprofit works tirelessly to reduce stigma around mental health in gaming, providing invaluable resources, training, and safe spaces at conventions through their AFK rooms. With their future at risk after a decade of service, our fundraising efforts aim to ensure they can continue their vital work.
We also partner with Crisis Text Line, which offers free, confidential mental health support 24/7 via text. This October, funds raised by the Humble community will directly support their international expansion and a dedicated initiative for gamers. Understanding that many gamers experience feelings of isolation, we’re launching a dedicated text line—Text HUMBLE to 741741—offering immediate support tailored specifically for this community.
Additionally, we’re excited to support The Trevor Project, which provides crisis counseling via phone, text, and chat to help save lives, particularly for LGBTQ+ youth. Our contributions help train new volunteers, ensuring that these young people always have someone to turn to for support.
Lastly, our ongoing collaboration with Active Minds promotes mental health awareness among young adults. Their 1000 Schools in 1000 Days initiative has sparked crucial conversations in schools across the country, and our contributions have supported over 100 schools so far.
Through these partnerships and initiatives, we aim to create a supportive environment where everyone feels empowered to seek help and connect with one another. Together, we hope to foster resilience and well-being.
