Safe In Our World Offers Subsidised Employee Assistance Programme for UK Video Games Industry (Small Studios, Freelancers and Creators)
Posted: 17 Aug 2026Safe In Our World renews its Employee Assistance Programme to provide small indie teams, creators, and self-employed people in the UK games industry with affordable wellbeing support.
What is an Employee Assistance Programme?
An Employee Assistance Programme (EAP) is typically a workplace benefit provided by an employer that gives employees access to a range of services to support personal and professional wellbeing.
If your first thought is “but I’m not an employee”, then read on, because Safe In Our World’s EAP can also be a huge help to freelancers, creators, and self-employed people across the UK games industry.

What’s included in an EAP?
Employee Assistance Programmes vary in what they offer, but they generally provide access to mental health support, such as therapy, and practical advice on work and financial matters.
The EAP provided by Safe In Our World offers a comprehensive range of support and services, including mental and emotional health, financial and life coaching, and more.*
Mental health and personal development
Many mental health benefits cap the number of sessions you can access per year, but life tends to ignore rules like that. You simply cannot predict the kinds of challenges you’ll face each year, or how many of them you might need some extra support with.
Our EAP gives you access to 10 therapy sessions per issue, per year. After an initial assessment, you’re matched with a therapist based on your preferences. Together, you’ll work through whatever it is you’re struggling with (e.g. bereavement, stress at work, anxious thoughts, etc.), with options for face-to-face, phone calls, or online video appointments.
And when therapy isn’t the solution you’re looking for, there’s also Life & Leadership coaching. This option is ideal for people looking to pursue their personal development:
- Developing communication skills
- Improving time management
- Creating work-life balance
- Reducing the risk of burnout
- Navigating times of change

Work health and financial advice
Worrying about your finances can have a significant impact on your mental health, and poor mental health can affect how you manage your money. Through our EAP, you’ll be able to access Munny – a financial coaching service providing personalised, confidential financial guidance.
Munny can help with a variety of financial matters, including:
- Buying a house
- Buying or leasing a car
- Avoiding or navigating debt
- Making the most of your pension
And if you find yourself needing to take time off work, our EAP provides Active Care – effective intervention on the very first day a fit note is received for stress-related absence, helping you to feel more in control.
Something we know will benefit small companies, and that anyone on our EAP can access, is the Peninsula HR Advice line. Whether you’re a business owner or a freelancer, you’ll be able to talk to a CIPD-qualified consultant. Get advice on anything from risk assessments to sick leave, contracts to redundancies.
Daily self-care and wellbeing
We talk a lot about self-care as a mental health charity, because it’s one of the kindest things you can do for yourself. It’s also a habit, and habits can be hard to form. That’s why using tools like the Wisdom app can be beneficial.
- 24/7 helpline & live chat access to 2000+ qualified counsellors
- Track your mood, sleep, activity, and health trends
- Access a library of webinars, articles, meditations and other perks
- Fitness & music zones to help manage stress

Why access an EAP through Safe In Our World?
Smaller companies may find the cost of an Employee Assistance Programme too high and uneconomical for their team size. Safe In Our World has always existed to remove barriers to mental health support in games, and our subsidised EAP provides that support.
Joining our EAP costs just £25 per person for the entire year (calculated pro rata from August 1, 2026). Meanwhile, studios with ~10 employees would spend an average of £10.27 per employee per month** to access the same support (that’s £123.24 per year).
In combination with our Level Up partnership, which gives games industry companies (of any size) access to a wealth of free mental health tools, training, and resources, our EAP takes your workplace wellbeing to the next level.
